Are LED lights hot?

LED lamps are constantly praised for being environmentally friendly, using a lesser amount of energy than other technologies, and they also have an impressively long life. But there is still a more or less general suspicion that LED lights will be hot. Is it true? Are LED lights as hot as light bulbs?

Light bulbs were really hot!

It is known that light bulbs become very hot when they have been for a while. Well, we have all come in a very hot light bulb. Yes, for you who do not know, not so long ago you had to wait for the lamp to call before you could change the lamp. Light bulbs become hot when electricity passes through the contact wires and filament inside the glass cup. The electric resistance of the filament causes it to become hot when current is passed through it. Thus, a light bulb produces light but also heat. 10% of the power required by a light bulb is used to produce light and 90% is used to produce heat. If the glass cup did not have a vacuum inside, the filament would catch fire and burn up immediately.

Light bulbs are beautiful but the technology has some negative effects:

  • Heat production reduces life span (800-1200 hours)

  • Wires lose their electrical resistance when they become hot

  • Great energy consumption and short life

LED lights get warm but not so hot

LED light
Yes, LED lights generate heat just like any device or equipment that consumes electricity. They generate heat but not at all in the same way as light bulbs. In fact, you can turn off an LED lamp that has been on for days without burning you. When electricity passes through the semiconductor, a very scarce heat is produced which is difficult to perceive. This is thanks to LED technology. LED lights will never be as hot as light bulbs. They produce light in a smart way.

LED lamps are designed to emulate light bulbs. Its ability to produce light without generating heat has many advantages:

  • LED lamps can be used in offices & schools

  • LED lamps are energy efficient

  • LED lamps are environmentally friendly
